The Mysterious Pink Stick

We came home from work yesterday to find this pink stick staked in the ground outside the front of our house - about 5 foot in from the curb:
None of our neighbors seem to be lucky enough to have a similar stick in their yard!  So, I called the city today to see if they could help solve the mystery.  I didn't find much in the way of specifics, but I was told that the color pink (as it relates to mysterious sticks appearing in your yard) typically indicates a "temporary site survey".  City Clerk/Sister Diane, can you perhaps confirm???  Like I said, I don't see any other mysterious pink sticks around.  Perhaps someone is going to build us a new house?  Hopefully, they let us know before they demolish the current one...

  1. You should be fine...that is unless you see white sticks in your yard some day..That means excavation.

    White: Proposed Excavation

    Pink: Temporary Survey Markings

Red: Electric Power Lines, Cables, Conduit and Lighting Cables, Gas, Oil, Steam, Petroleum or Gaseous Materials

Orange: Communications, Alarm or Signal lines, Cables or Conduit

    Blue: Potable Water

Lavender: Reclaimed Water, Irrigation and Slurry Lines

    Green: Sewers and Drain Lines

  3. At least you will enjoy your new street. Hopefully they won't have a new tax for you.

  4. I'll make sure the stick stays snow free, lest someone confuses it with a white stick! I don't think we are getting a new street. The one we have is only 11 years old... Our property taxes went up for 2011, but our property value went down. That's not a new tax, but it's more tax. Kind of the same thing...

Kelli - I'm not sure what a puddle of snow is. Is this a continuation of your claim that ice and frost aren't the same thing?

  5. I would say that you'll probably either lose something (like they're going to take some of your front yard) OR you'll pay more $$$$$ for "something" they're putting in - OR BOTH!!!!!!! Some Dept. probably had some $$$ left over in their budget they HAD to spend, so let's go do "something" with it!! Sorry----we don't use pink sticks here---never seen a pink stick like that! Just don't move it!!! Dream on for a new house! They'd buy you out and tear it down----NO NEW ONE PUT UP - SORRY!!!! Is the grass/snow painted pink too from what I can see? We don't have puddles of snow here either! Hmmm! What IS that by the way??? We have NO SNOW! :) Keep us updated. Diane
